GALS Spring Fling
A weekend get-away to hike, laugh, relax, and enjoy. Sign up for all or any part of the fun!
When: weekend of May 18-19.
What: 2-day hiking trek from Gruyeres to Vevey (and possibly beyond!) with chalet overnight in Les Paccots.
Where are we walking exactly? Swiss Trail #3 - Alpine Panorama.
Day 1: Gruyeres to Les Paccots (see the route details)
Day 2: Les Paccots to Vevey (section details)
Day 2 bonus: Vevey to Lausanne via Lavaux (section details)
Where are we staying overnight?
The lovely Chalet Babuuk in Les Paccots. Total cost is about 400CHF, which we will divide equally depending on the number of people who actually make it.
What's the general plan here?
10am: Meet and depart Givrins via carpool to Gruyeres.
noonish: start walking, lunch trailside (or at a cafe if we're inclined)
6pmish: arrive at chalet. Dinner, drinks, shenanigans.
breakfast, clean-up, hit the trail
noonish: lunch trailside, or at a Vevey area cafe. Optional train home.
afternoon: option to continue on to Lavaux, train return to Givrins anywhere along the way.
6pm: latest return to Givrins
What to bring:
You will need to bring all your personal items for the weekend, which will also include some food. If you are hiking, you should be prepared to walk with a backpack of approximately 10-15 pounds/4-7kilos.
I prepared a list of suggested items for hikers, which will be modified and finalized as our group and plans become more solid.
Is this going to be a death march?
Nope - each day is rated as easy with moderate fitness required, and approximately 5 hours of walking time.
What happened to the other options?
I had to rule them out for various logistical, or cost reasons. I feel this is our best option for ease of access, logistics, cost, and overall max fun for minimal effort. But, if you are looking for a fun family adventure of your own, I think any of those trips would be great for an afternoon, a day, or more!
Do I have to walk?
Nope, if you just want to join for one day of walking, just get away for the night, or join us for any part of the agenda, that's cool too.
What if it's raining?
We hang at the chalet, maybe do shorter hikes, paint our toe nails.
